AGP and AGI
There are two types of AI practitioners.
Type 1 are those whose pursuit is Artificial General Product (AGP). They want to build useful AI. They believe the AGP model is the ultimate product, one that can take in anything and output anything, no matter whether in the digital or the physical world.
Type 2 are those whose pursuit is Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). They want to understand “intelligence”. They are multi-disciplinary people. They want to understand how intelligence emerges and evolves, from its simplest form to the most imaginable, complicated form like human intelligence.
AGP people often claim that their goal is AGI. However, their definition of AGI is actually AGP. These are two fundamentally different things, because “usefulness” is not “intelligence”.
I want to be an AGI person.
